Swinging

During our school year many events take place at St. Matthew’s that allows all of our families to participate in their child’s education. The following is a general outline of the major events that we celebrate:

Parent Orientation:  At the beginning of our school year an evening is set aside to introduce all of our parents to our entire teaching and office staff. Information is shared about our Board of Trustees, Parent’s Council, and spiritual support given to us by our St. Matthew’s Church Pastoral Staff.

Student Orientation: Before school begins each child is invited to visit their new classroom, meet their two teachers and some of their new classmates.

October brings our annual FALL FEST. Sponsored by our Parent’s Council and not only serves as one of the schools fundraisers but raises a lot of FUN too. This is truly an annual family event that is anticipated not only by our present students but also by our alumni families. The event is filled with a carnival atmosphere and our families enjoy games, pony rides, a catered dinner, a bake sale, and live entertainment to name a few.

Halloween is enjoyed at our school with our two and three year old children observing “Orange Day” where they wear orange clothing and enjoy orange drinks and special treats. Our four and five year old children enjoy wearing their costumes to school as well as enjoy a holiday party.

Having a Pow WowNovember is a time to celebrate Thanksgiving with our St. Matthew’s students. Our three-year-old classes invite their parents to a Thanksgiving feast. Our prekinder four year old and kindergarten classes hold their annual “Pow Wow” which finds all of our classroom “tribes” entertaining our families with their Native American songs and dances. A festive feast hosted by our parents follows this wonderful performance.

December brings our wonderful Christmas Pageants.  Our three-year-old classes present a “pick-up” pageant that allows them to pick up any costume they wish to wear during the reading of The Christmas Story.  Some years we may have five Mary’s and no Joseph, several wise men and one shepherd! Our families always enjoy this precious presentation. Our prekinder four year olds and kindergarten class present our annual CHRISTMAS PAGEANT. Our prekinder children serve as our singing angels and our Kindergarten children perform as the characters in the Nativity celebration of Jesus’ birth.

During the month of January we celebrate all of our children’s fathers by having our annual “Donuts” for Dad mornings. Our students invite their Dads, Granddads, or special friends to an early morning get together in their classrooms. Everyone enjoys coffee, juice and donuts.

February finds us enjoying a season of “love”. Our children share Valentines, dress in red, and enjoy a yummy snack.

The month of March is a very busy for our parents and teachers. This month our Parent’s Council sponsors our annual  “La Noche “.  This is an elegant evening for all of our parents and friends of the school. This “adult only” evening is held at a country club and finds us all enjoying a lovely dinner, and both a live and silent auction. All of our classrooms make a special project for the auctions and are always in high demand for our bidding parents and guests.

Friends saying goodbyeEaster, whether scheduled in March or April is celebrated by our students with an egg hunt and special snack. FLOWERING OF THE CROSS is a ceremony that is always scheduled the first Wednesday following Easter. It is a beautiful ceremony for both our students and their families. Each child is encouraged to bring a flower to decorate our “wooden crosses”. The resurrection of Jesus is celebrated as each child adds a flower to the cross until it is entirely decorated with beautiful flowers.

May concludes the school year with end of the year parties.  At this time  we can celebrate our friends and teachers. This is a time to express our appreciation to our child’s teachers and say good bye to all of our friends for the summer. The excitement of beginning a new school year, new teachers and meeting more friends has us all looking forward to returning to school in the fall.
